Description: This 170 ha property is situated in the beautiful
Tulbagh valley, a mere 140 km from Cape Town. It has an excellent
infrastructure with ample water and stunning views. There are 4 houses
each with 4 bedrooms and the new owner would be in a position to choose
any one of them as the main homestead (3 swimming pools in total).
One of the big sheds is housing the cold room, a dry tunnel as well as
the packing facility. The cold room has a forced cooler function for
1000 bins. There is furthermore a functional office complex, another 2
sheds, a workshop, a smaller cold room with a 30 bin capacity as well as
2 recreational halls for the staff.
While there are 29 laborer cottages for permanent workers, a kampong for
seasonal workers also exists. For the tomato and pepper enterprises the
farm has 2 shade houses, totaling 1 ha under netting.
Farming activities include furthermore nectarines of 14 ha, grapes of 4
ha, peaches of 27 ha, plums of 6 ha, prunes of 23 ha, pears of 20 ha,
apples of 3 ha and a 4 ha peach orchard of the desert type. There are
thus 101 hectares planted to fruit.
Management follows good farming practices which resulted in the farm
being accredited a gold classification from major European fruit
importers.
From the 8 dams on the farm, 6 are being fed from fountains and water
coming from the mountains. This water is listed under the local
irrigation scheme. The remaining 2 dams get fed from the overflow winter
water, but also from the overflow fountain water during summer. There
are also 2 boreholes on the farm.
The owner has converted the operation 2 years ago from predominantly
canning focused to the export of quality fresh fruit. This step has now
paid off dividends and the turnover has increased significantly over the
last couple of years. Gross income is expected to increase over the next
years as more young orchards would come in full production.
There is still room for expanding the total farming business as 18 ha of
high potential fallow.
