Muizenberg

Muizenberg was first used by the Dutch east India Company as a cattle farm in 1670. In 1743 it became a military outpost under sergeant Wynand Muis and was known as Fort Muys which later became Muizenberg.

In it’s glory days Muizenberg was one of the premier holiday destinations where the wealthy rubbed shoulders.

In the late 1990’s the Muizenberg improvement District was established. This initiative has now gained momentum and is in full swing with various new and exciting developments taking place.

The fine, sandy and safe beach stretches for 36 kilometres from Surfer's Corner to Sunrise Circle and beyond to Monwabisi. Thrill seekers can hire jetski's for some fun in the sun at Sonwabe Beach. Surfer's Corner (the Muizenberg station end of the beach) is an excellent spot for novice surfers and a number of local surf shops hire out boards and offer lessons. For the more experienced surfer, the winter surf at Muizenberg offers a greater challenge.
