Stellenbosch is the capital of the Cape Winelands and was the second town to be founded in South Africa in 1685. The town has a wonderful mixture of architectural styles from a bygone era - beautiful Cape Dutch thatched cottages, Gregorian style double story houses and ornate Victorian homes can be found along the towns oak lined streets.

Various Architectural National Monuments can also be appreciated while wandering up the attractive "Dorp Street" in the town centre.

Of course the reason most visitors come here is to sample the wonderful wines of the area and there are over 200 estates that offer tastings. The estates are most impressive with grand manor houses and beautiful laid out grounds. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to fully explore this area.
